• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,
I've done some searching but i haven't found satisfactory answers. I have a few questions regarding programming my HT1250:

  • How would i go about configuring an MDC system to receive only? I work for an ambulance service that has 2 repeaters with the same output freq/pl but different inputs. Each tower has an MDC signal at the end of each transmission. I would like to configure my radio to receive and display these MDC codes so that i can eventually assign aliases to them so that i will know which tower is being transmitted on. I want to be certain that i don't transmit any MDC info when i transmit on my portable.

  • My other question is about transmitting QCII tones. I know that i choose the tone that i want to transmit from the menu, is there a way to limit which personality is able to transmit the tones? Basically is there a way to ensure that i can transmit tones on personality A without any problems but also ensure that tones can not be transmitted on personality B. It shouldn't be a big deal if this isn't possible but it would be a nice "housekeeping" item for the radio.

Thanks in advance for any help.

MDC Rx, within each Conventional Personality you would like to rx on, Signaling tab, set the Rx System to MDC-1. Leave the TPL Required Unchecked. Leave the Signaling Squelch to Or.
Go to Signaling tab, MDC System 1, Check the Display Decode ID field.

Tx QCII, I do not believe you can set it to choose a channel. But you probably would want to go to the Signaling tab, then Signaling Configuration, then General, Check the Basic Sel Cal field, this will make the tones go out only once, then you can tx a message. If you leave this Unchecked, the tones will go out every time you press the ptt button, unless you "back out" of the signaling menu.
