• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know of a decent radio shop who can change out the housing/kit on an HT1250 for a reasonable price. I'm not comfortable doing it myself. I have the radio and the refurb kit already. I PM'd some people on here but got no responses. Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks and 73!

Ryan. It would help if we knew where you live, so someone could suggest a shop close to you. It's silly for me to suggest a great shop in Florida if you live in LA. QRZ says you live in CT, but you might have moved. GARY N4KVE

It's super easy to change out. It's kinda fun; I was a little nervous changing my first case too, but it's satisfying to have a new looking radio in hand when you're done.

Let me know if you still need a reference. There are a couple dealers in California that I'd recommend and are reasonable, but it's a long way to ship your radio.

I have the full keypad model and i want to replace the housing and want to make it a limited keypad. Will this work or will i have issues with it. I never used the DTMF keypad on it anyway... Also, is this something i can do myself or does it have to be taken to a shop?? I have some knowledge as to how to take it apart and put it back together.

Convert DTMF Keypad to Ltd. Keypad

This will work fine if you swap housings with a limited keypad model. Your radio will just no longer have a physical DTMF keypad on the front to operate. If I remember correctly the connections are all the same.
Similarly, if you have a limited keypad HT1250 and you put it in a new case with DTMF keypad, the radio will still work but the DTMF keypad will have no function.
