HTX-100 needs new mic

I have an old HTX-100 and I need a new mic for it since 10 meters is so hot right now. The stock mic is just about had it. I have used a friend's mic off his HTX-100 so I know it is the mic that is bad.So this stock mic is 600 ohms and the mic everyone is trying to talk me into is 5000 Ohms. I know you can go lower and it will work fine. But what about going to a mid Z mic will it work right on this radio. I would get a Kenwood MC-60A if I could find one. I wold really like a desk mic and I would like to have the ability to add a little gain on the mic since there is no mic gain on the radio. I have also looked at an MFJ-299.
