Basically, it's a mess early this morning on the VHF band. It's difficult to keep up with. Many departments are having a tremendous amount of trouble communicating due to the skip. In fact, one (cannot remember which) resorted to cell phone use. Dispatch made the announcement that he couldn't copy anyone on the radio and that they would use their cell phones "until the skip cleared up."

This has certainly been one of the best ducting events I've monitored in quite some time! It's hard to believe I'm receiving VHF signals from Saint Louis, to Chicago, to Cincinnati, and down into Alabama.

VHF LO 33 Meg Also

I monitor a lot of 33 meg frequencies for the fire service. I have been getting a lot of activity on:

33.90 I heard engine 40 getting dispatched
33.64

I am not recording and have not gotten anything useful as of yet but it sure seems like the atmosphere is pretty active!!

I am starting to hear NYC fire department on 154.1875mhz in central pa. It seems too good to be true. It is very strong (just as strong as my weather radio station that I can see the transmitter on top of a mountain 5 miles away...and I checked NYC's database on RR and saw that almost everything was opensky...so I have no idea if it was just York city that is about 20 miles south of me or new york city.
FYI...I hear them say New york city (that is what it sounds like) and I looked at york city and saw nothing for the corresponding frequency. This will be a mystery that I will have to be patient to find the answer to.
