Attention monitors in West Kentucky: A HUGE field/brush fire is in progress this Monday afternoon (8/20) on Highway 80 West in Graves County, KY. I'm currently monitoring, and at least 10 area fire departments have been dispatched. If you're in West Kentucky, turn on your radios and tune to the various Graves (and nearby counties) listed in the RR database.

I'm hearing lots of traffic on 155.610 MHz (Graves Sheriff) which has been set up as an incident command frequency. I heard dispatch advise the frequency was patched to fire. Some traffic as to the fire starting in a corn field by a possible tractor spark.

There is apparently also another field fire in progress in Hopkins County, KY now. Any monitors up that way?

We had a pretty bad brush fire up here in Louisville yesterday. It took three FDs to get it out. I'm just glad that we don't live in CA or any of the other "wildfire" states.

Turns out flames scorched two hundred acres of land in this fire.

Be prepared as I was by already having the frequencies programmed in. In my case, I have surrounding counties in different scan banks. I may not listen to them all the time, but they're ready when something happens.

Firefighters from several counties fought a major brush fire near the TVA Paradise Fossil Plant in Drakesboro, KY (Muhlenberg County). All eight county fire departments and seven of the surrounding counties had units on scene to contain the fire. As of Friday, August 17, units were still on scene attempting to extinguish what was still on fire. The fire was estimated to have burned up to 1,000 acres.

The Kentucky Division of Forestry has declared a RED FLAG WARNING for most of the Western Kentucky area. The vegetation is dry enough that almost anything could spark a major wildfire. This is/was effective till 1900 hours CST.
