Thanks, swylie!
I didn't see any changes either on the 2018 document I seen. Other than Sierra Front area.
So it doesn't get lost in that sea of text.
HTF uses;
NIFC Tac II 168.2000 and
HT Tac 163.7125 0.0 163.7125 203.5 N TAC
for Tac freq..

I just wanted to report the following: it appears that, over the past ten years or so, it would seem that the Forest Service has been slowly phasing out the use of 169.875 as an Output (at least in the West). Out of the seven National Forests in the Western US that originally had 169.875 assigned, I’m only aware of one that is still using 169.875, and that is the Humboldt-Toiyabe, Carson Ranger District in. Now, there seems to be reports that 169.875 is not being used in the Las Vegas area anymore. One more possible frequency to maybe try down there in Southern Nevada is 172.350. If not that, then I’m still at a loss about what the new frequency is.

I've been concentrating my search on 169-174 because its been a hot spot for BLM and USFS repeater outputs for decades and I still cant find HTF. I have a feeling we will have to wait until monsoon season to find them.

I agree. However, one idea I had was to park one radio on the BLM or NDF Net, then wait until the dispatch center either comes on the air in the morning, broadcasts the morning or afternoon report, or goes off the air in the evening; then while they are doing this, search the range that you mentioned while they are making these broadcasts, in the hope that the new HTF frequency is multicasted along with the traffic on the BLM or State Forestry Net. Hope this is of some help.

I wanted to mention also, that the Humboldt-Toiyabe is now the last National Forest in the Western US, that I know of (of seven original), that is still using 169.875. The Carson Ranger District Of The HTF, up here in Northern Nevada and Central/Eastern California is still using 169.875; like you said, maybe they just changed tones down there. Maybe I’m incorrect, however, my theory is that the Forest Service will not be using 169.875 after this year, at least not for Repeater pairs. My logic is thus: based on the “rules” of The NTIA frequency alignment, the six other National Forests that I mentioned could have continued using 169.875, instead they discontinued using this frequency, and replaced it with an entirely different frequency. This has occurred in the last decade or so.

I don’t know if I mentioned this previously, and they could be long shots, however, maybe also try 170.575 or 170.600 for the HTF, Las Vegas area.

Here is the timeline for the National Forests that converted from 169.875 to another frequency, year of conversion:
Deschutes:2010
Shasta-Trinity:2015
Arapaho-Roosevelt:2016
Apache-Sitgreaves:2016
Salmon-Challis:2016
Okanogan-Wenatchee:2018

Shoshone-conversion date unknown, estimated between 2010-2012
Manti-La-Sal Fire Net-unknown if 169.875 is still in use or has been changed

The reason I mentioned this is that I wanted to illustrate a trend, that seems to show that the USFS has been migrating away from this frequency in the last eight years, or so.

One additional thought on this subject for the evening, directed towards you folks down there in Southern Nevada. I noticed that in 2016, 169.975 was listed as the Crew Net for the HTF, Las Vegas Interagency Communications Center. 169.975 at one time was also the frequency for the HTF, Santa Rosa Ranger District, don’t know if it still is. Leviathan Peak, on the Carson RD, used to be on 169.975, however, that has been changed to 172.275. It is my understanding that, according to NTIA guidelines, Frequencies in this range are generally no longer used for simplex communications, so maybe the HTF, Spring Mountain NRA has retained 169.975, and is using it for another purpose, or maybe not. Just thought I would throw out a few more frequency possibilities and ideas, to help the folks in Southern Nevada solve the mystery of what happened to the HTF on 169.875 down there.

My guess is that the rest of the Carson Ranger District will also be changed to 172.275, however I am not absolutely certain, since Leviathan historically was always on 169.975, not 169.875. The rest of the Carson RD, up here in Northwestern Nevada/Eastern/Central California, is still on 169.875. The Bridgeport RD used to also be on 169.875, but was changed to 170.525 last year.
