Hi.

I have a BC 245 xlt. It is making a humming noise but strong signals still come in. When I touch the antena where it is connected to the radio the humming goes away. When I connect the radio to the outdoor antenna it is worse.

Any info to help me?

Thank You, Walter

maybe you could teach it the words to the song! :)

Seriously though, it sounds to me like something is loose inside the radio. Have you cracked open the case to see if there are screws, wires, or anything else that has come loose? I was having a problem with my icom 706 shuting down when I keyed the mike when it was pointed toward me. I cracked open the case and found that the tiny piece of coax from the UHF connector to the circuit board had come loose. When I was turning the radio towards me to look at the display a little bit better the tiny bit of torque on the connector was enough to make the connection bad. Look inside to make sure you don't have something loose, or touching the chassis that shouldn't be touching.

How is it powered?

N-Jay- it is powered by the AC Adapter it came with (an AD70U) and a Ni-Dc Battery Pack. The humming stops when it is not connected to AC Adapter and when it is not connected to the outside antenna.

Thank You,

Sounds like a ground loop, I would guess that the AC adapter is leaking from the DC side to the AC side (not a good thing).

COuld also be a ground difference problem between teh house ground and teh antenna ground.

Is the antenna bonded to the house ground?
If not do so, and check your house ground.

A likely culprit would be the cheesy filter caps in the wall wart going away.
If it does not hum on batteries try another AC supply.

Good luck
