Ill be heading to Harbor Beach for 2 days soon. I wont have too much time for monitoring but I'm still bringing my scanner to see how much I can pick up.
Right now, I've loaded up on MPSCS frequencies used by towers in St Clair, Sanilac, huron and Tuscola counties as well as the listed analog freqs for Sanilac.
A few questions I'm hoping someone could answer:

1) Would I be able to pick up the St Clair County towers (which likely has more traffic) or will I be too far north?

2) Would I be able to pick up any frequencies from Ontario (Goderich area) or is that area too far away as well?

3) Is anyone aware of analog frequencies not listed....towing, security, etc.?

Don't forget about the marine VHF band as well. Coast Guard expect them on digital 167.1125 and/or 167.625
Maybe encrypted though.

3--- From my Files

Huron

Display Frequency Tone
Thumb Area Transit 43.7 131.8Hz (Bus)

ELKTON 453.825 SEARCH
Comcast? 461.725 127.3Hz

When you program yours for Huron digital make sure you set it for ID Search - Uniden or Radio Shack put in a wildcard, since Huron is on their own system separate from MPSCS. Its advisable to always do it that way.
Huron digital 911 make sure you program in all the frequencies listed as it is a Kenwood system.
We have all the fire department talkgroups and 'most' of the police as well.

Too bad you didn't go during the week when Selfridge A10's and Toledo's F16's are more active as they do a lot of stuff in that area since it is a MOA air space. Military Operations Area.

Thank you! Good info.
Also, how active is MSP up there? I thought they took care of a lot of routine calls in certain rural areas of the state.

At night I'm more apt to get a signal off their digital, it DEFINITELY wont be like in your home area hehe. Not as much 911 radio traffic for sure.
Cant say as far as MSP goes, Im sure they get calls too.

For future reference .......

Michigan State Police around the thumb area, are handled thru the local Sheriff Dept's dispatch.
Usually using car #s 3300's. At least that's the # range for Sanilac Co., anyways.
Dispatch and cars have also been referenced by; "MSP unit #". Around here, unit # 3336 - seems to be a popular car! lol As that one gets assigned here with regularity during afternoon/day shift.
There's only like 2 or 3 MSP units/shift/county.
Definitely lil action around the Thumb Area like Detroit, Lansing, Flint, etc.

Oh, yes - MSP units, courtesy of Bridgeport MSP Post.
