Without a trunk tracker scanner, what should I start listening for in Anne Arundel
County, MD as Hurricane Earl approaches? Entities and frequencies please.

Well let's see - Skywarn definitely (I don't know if the BRATS are still doing it, since the main coordinator passed away a couple of years back...but certainly keeping an ear on the BRATS, Maryland Mobileers and AARC frequencies is called for... and all of these sites are in the Maryland collaboration page of the wiki) - then if we look at the conventional stuff, I wouldn't ignore the various ITAC repeaters, SHA and certainly BWI (all of which are fully defined in the database)...as for the trunked system, Disaster (let's hope it doesn't come to that), all the auxiliary and ops talkgroups (including Annapolis, which potentially could see some of the worst of the flooding in the area), public works highways/meet me talkgroups, EOC (which the Maryland Mobileers may be manning), any of the unidentified tgs (they may get activated if things really get bad), MSP.

Whew! Not bad for a 11 hour day...73 Mike

Almost forgot - depending on where you are (closer to the PG county line, for example), monitoring the RINS/COG channels might also be fruitful, depending of course on how bad things get. That link is also in the wiki article I mentioned....73 Mike

O'Malley declares storm emergency
Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has declared a state of emergency in preparation for Hurricane Earl’s expected brush along the state’s coast Friday.

O’Malley is warning residents and tourists to take precautions, including not attempting to drive to or from Ocean City during the storm, should forecasts for high winds and rain remain in effect.

The emergency declaration activates the state’s National Guard to provide assistance if necessary. It also allows the governor to suspend state statutes and regulations if needed to protect public safety.

Anne Arundel County Police Sargent told all cars to top off their fuel tanks before ending shift for possible power problems tomorrow.

Not to put too fine a point on this, Clyde, but we have much better Maryland-related info (at least for the Baltimore metro area, where the topic of this thread actually started) in the collaboration page I mentioned earlier in the thread. In addition, the Milliwatt blog has an article or two about how some repeaters were joined together for the big snow we had, as well as more up to date stuff on Skywarn. I wouldn't count on that ARTSCI listing being totally up to date....

However, all this hoopla may be for naught. Ocean City is going to get sideswiped for sure, but here in the Baltimore area, I greatly doubt we'll see much more than some wind, and maybe some rain and a little flooding of low lying areas or areas near the Bay, but nothing like the coast will see...at least so far...73 Mike
