Sunday, September 1: The Brandmeister 3199 talkgroup, labeled Hurricane Net, has been activated for Dorian. I'm hearing periodic announcements but no traffic yet. As i write this, the eye is approaching the Bahamas and is forecasted to curve northeast and be off the North Carolina coast on Friday.

Thanks for that, w2xq, I have the hf radios up and running for the Hurricane Watch Net on 14325 and 7268. Heard some voice traffic giving storm coordinates last night on 3455 (Caribbean) Just watched a vid from NOAA and the eye looks very tight.
… this looks to be a bad storm.

https://hose.brandmeister.network/group/3199/ but there's no audio. what's going on?
Patuence. There isn't any significant traffic on 3199 at the moment. I hear chitchst between net controls every hour or so. I don't expect much activity until the hurricane--over Grand Bahama now, miving at 1 mph--nears the USA coast. That will be quite a while. The VoIP Hurricane Net – VoIP Hurricane Net has alternative ways to listen thst won't tie up your DMR radio. I use an Echolink feed.

Monitoring from anywhere outside the affected area probably will not be easy, or even possible in some areas. Repeater operators are trending toward making just about anything PTT only and configuring only "locally useful" talkgroups. The days of monitoring or participating in far away conversations via DMR are just about over.

For those of you monitoring the VoIP Hurricane Net on Brandmeister talkgroup 3199, this is a receive only link from their WX_Talk EchoLink conference. The VoIP Hurricane Net will be establishing a separate net with a dedicated net control station on the QuadNet Array if required once Hurricane Dorian approaches the US coast. The QuadNet Array consists of the following:

D-STAR Reflectors XRF757A, XRF735A, XLX307D and XLX049D
D-STAR Smart Groups DSTAR1, DSTAR2, DSTAR3 and DSTAR4
Brandmeister DMR Talkgroup 31012
DMR Plus reflector 4541 (on any IPSC2 server)
DMR Plus talkgroup 320 (on the IPSC2-QuadNet Server)
DMR-MARC talkgroup 33
Yaesu System Fusion 37099

For more information, visit the VoIP Hurricane Net website at www.voipwx.net
