Any suggestion for Eastern Pacific hurricanes like Hurricane Norbert - was wondering if NOAA would have an HF presence as they do in the Gulf Coast/Western Atlantic.

Good question. I keep on hearing in the media when they report on Pacific storms that 'hunters' are flying into them, so I would assume they make a refueling stop somewhere along the line.

Anyway I'd watch 13927USB (MARS freq) for phone patches, and make some occasional checks on the HF-GCS system. HF isn't a primary for the hunters - they will use SATCOM more, and I think they use HF as a backup. A check of the UDXF Yahoo group might turn up where they were heard with the last couple of hurricanes on the East Coast.

I would also keep an ear on the PAC group of MWARA freqs - diverting aircraft around these storms can sometimes be entertaining to listen to....73 Mike

[edit] Here's the PAC freq link from our wiki...

updates and better freqs are, of course, always welcome

Maritime HF may be worth monitoring for Hurricane reports.
Last time I checked the Amigo Net is on 8122 KHz (mornings) and the Southbound net on 6516 KHz (evening). These should be heard quite well in the Western USA.
This page has a good listing for Mexico cruising nets: http://www.docksideradio.com/west_coast.htm

Great site, Brandon. I had completely forgotten about that one. That's one that should go to the Utility wiki, for sure. 73 Mike
