well it fun and you need a ham radio
another thing the national weather service don't need you to go out storm chasing ok
your not funded and and it cost a lot of gas and it dangerous and foolish.
BUT what you can do is bring your digital camera smartphone with video and camrea features
and take storm damage photos and reports.

PLEASE don't be like characters in twister ok
I been there rto the national weather service here and know the weather man there
I know they do beg spotters not to storm chase

Yeah im not planning on going storm chasing. And you dont NEED a ham radio, our area has a hotline number to call into. But I am planning on getting my ham licence really soon.

Wrong, you can get them for ~$100.

and a slip of the tounge will cost you.

Who told you that? How much does it cost?

No, you don't. You can use SpotterNetwork or telephone.

Foolish for you, not for me.

I know they do beg spotters not to storm chase

Just stop. This hurts... They do not do that.

There are 2 meter radios all over for under $100.
Even new portables from the Chinese manufacturers that can do 146 and 440.

You better stick to scanners in your warm bed and let real men with ham radios do the work.

What do you mean? Analog transmitters were just as damaged.

There is more than one power line in NYC.

Im sure there's a lot of systems both digital and analog that are damaged, but theres always backup systems so im sure they are fine for communications. Plus, im sure theres some sort of backup power systems in place. I have not heard any interruption of systems over the NYFD feeds I was listening to
