Hi there,

Is there any data frequencies out there that can be decoded with Hyper
Terminal?

And if so, what sort of frequencies should I be listening for?

Where would I find the frequencies and what
settings should I set Hyper Terminal to?

Thanks

Hyperterminal displays data, it doesn't decode anything. You decode whatever you want to see, by whatever means you have, and feed the decoded data to Hyperterminal.

what settings should I set Hyper Terminal to?
The ones that will match the source of the data you're feeding it with.

The normal setup is to have HT connected to a serial port, with the decided data coming in on that port. You tell HT to run the port at whatever parameters (speed, number of bits, etc.) the device connected to the port needs.

Why would anyone bother to write one, when the source is specified (look in your scanner manual - it tells you what speed the scanner talks at) and it's part of the initial setup in Hyperterminal, so you just pick the speed the scanner uses.

If there were actually a need to figure out the speed, people like Don Starr would include the ability in their software, and scanner manufacturers would include the ability to make the scanner say "Ahhh", or the RS-232 equivalent ("*" was usually uses as a speed-measuring character). It's a really trivial piece of code. There's just no need for it.
