To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently bought a RD982i-S for a business repeater. I then purchased the AES 256 addon which required me to send in my radios serial number and firmware version. For the life of me I cannot get this activated. I have followed the instructions from the dealer and from Hytera and it will not enable the option. Has anyone done this and can you remember the steps you took? Thanks

Did they send you like a zip with 3 files back? Usually the SMART dealers require you to send in a code plug so they see the serial number MAC and other info.

P.S. FYI multi PL will NOT work with that unit!!!!! it will only do one PL/DPL its no longer supported!!! Factory cares less that multi pl don't work!!
That being an (S) means that if you have ip connect? you can link DMR & ANALOG audio via IP to another (S) I run commercial and GMRS networks I have several.

I forgot why did you buy AES256? It should come with basic and enhanced encryption. IE: they are compatible with Motorola DMR enhanced encryption 10 digit, Hytera enhanced, and Harris Momentum, And others say now TYT PLUS and I believe any tone enhanced?

Thanks for the info. Yeah they got my info wrong and Hytera had to make a whole new key. All is fixed. I use AES 256 as it is the most secure and quite frankly, I’m a tacticool larper so I need the AES 256

Do you have any recommendations on Hytera dealers? I am looking to get another radio.

Ok so WHY were you trying to ADD AES 265 to the 982 S? Were you planning on using it as a BASE STATION and not a REPEATER?
because the DIGITAL repeater will pass the RADIOS encryption through it! If you wanted to talk as a base or remote base to a radio in the field you would need it. otherwise you shouldn't need that option?

The repeater needs to have the encryption key as well. It will not pass it through. At least that is the case for AES 256.

Ill have to do a test on my ip site connect system. I have AES (Full dmr encrypt) in a couple radios but not the repeaters but just programmed for simplex.

I know with enhanced enc all my repeaters dont have any keys in it at all but just have the encrypt box checked and all works fine.
Im not sure why the repeater itself would care if it has the keys in it or not. That would just enable you to transmit and listen off the repeater speaker itself when your standing infront of it

Seems wonky but ill give it a go with a RD982-S and could even try on the H series repeater but wont have access to that system for a few weeks as its not local to me.

Same here its ALL digital DATA should pass should only need if running as a base station or you wouldn't be able to talk.
P.S. I sent you a PM did you read it?

I think I have multi CTCSS working, I put 250.3 and 254.1 in the multi list, the analog channel is 254.1.
Both portables have the same freq with 250.3 in one channel and 254.1 in the other.
If they are on either channel the R982 keys.

The multi CTC/CDC box was grayed out but I did not have any analog channels with CTCSS programmed to start with.
It opened up once I put 464/9.500 in with 254.1

I put 464.000 in the repeater as a mixed mode channel and it didn't work. 20 min later I figured out I needed 464.500 and the analog channel at 100.0 works along with the DMR side and the 250.3 and 254.1 channels.
Amazing how a 0.1% error can ruin your day.

You have old firmware? The 982-S units won't work correctly with PL or DPL in multi pl with about the last firmware that will be made.
