To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey folks,

couple of weeks ago I bought and used Hytera BP565 U1 radio in really good shape. Today arrived to me programming cable PC155 compatible with this model. After instalation of the Hytera CPS V1.5.08.000.0004 (FW of the radio is: V1.5.13.000.01) connectig the cable to the radio and use function "Read From Radio" with appropriate CPS everytime I got only message "Failed to connect to the device". I see correct COM ports available in the CPS and also the Prolific driver "Prolific PL2303GS USB Serial COM Port" > driver date 11/27/2024 version 5.2.8.0. The same issue happened on Win11 and Win10.
Strange is that after connecting cable to the radio there is no sound or indication that something was connected in.
Could you please give me some advice what can be wrong or how I should proceed to solve this issue? Nevertheless the radio looks unopened and without screwdriver touch.

Many of my older Hytera PD7xx models works without any problem but this BP one its quite strange because everything seems to be ok from first point of view.

Thanks in advance for the information or comments.

How is the radio displayed in the device manager? The fact that Windows does not react to the device connected to USB is not normal. Check in the device manager if there is a problem with the driver. Try reinstalling the driver

There is no information about the connected radio in the device manager. After pluging the PC155 cable to the radio and then to the PC
only prolific PL2303GS usb serial com port appeared in device manager.
Maybe there is some special "programming mode" for this BP series? Its only an idea becuase really don't have any glue....

My BP552 came up as com 14, I have seen lower values. Windows 7 device manager says it's 9600, 7 none and 1 for settings. I did not make any changes. I read past windows updates might have changed some drivers which affected some chip sets that were illegal Prolific clones.
My PV76 has v1.0 on the CPS/DL switch.

Agree with a2s above this sounds like a conflict or an override by windows of the correct driver assignment to your cable as it is a recognised device in device manager, but not showing as a DMR device in Devices and Printers on the end of the cable which you need to, to allow read and write through CPS

I do not have any AP or BP Hytera radios of my own here to test for you as an example. However, I do have a large lot of PD700 and MD700 suscribers and run multiple CPS verisons and firmware upgrades to suit + PD400 suscribers, multiple CPS version installs and firmware upgrades all fed from the same desktop programmer and all using generic aftermarket chinese programming cables.

For both those product groups there is a specific Hytera supplied driver that interfaces between CPS and programming cable. I assume same applies to AP or BP radio familes wether the driver is standalone file to be installed or embedded in the CPS install.

While we arent comparing apples and apples I had the same experience as you bringing in a new chinese cable and a firmware upgrade for some existing PD700's. Plugged the cable to PC and a generic prolific driver loaded to support the cable instantly. The cables performance with the radio allowed firmware upgrades and then wouldnt work with CPS read/write "failed to connect to device" and not detecting as connected device, In Download Mode it was also behaving as a USB 1.0 device working very slowly but still working. The firmware upgrade would also not work in AUTO mode to switch the radio into firmware upgrade mode, had to use manual mode install and physical key combo the radio on start up.

Hytera are painful too because their earlier drivers were either 32 bit or 64 bit system seperately compatible and the drivers released were unsigned so present as potentially harmful and wont auto load nor does the system automatically flag this to you, Hytera even had a cheat sheet document to work around this unsigned driver issue. Later drivers and software are 64bit system only I believe to do do the cheat is acessing parts of windows hidden for aministrator privilege to try and stop you infecting your computer.

Long story long, I suspect the solution is to plug the cable in, through device manager and pointed at your cable specifically, a driver version roll back may be more appropriate. Windows and many programs like CrapCleaner or AVG or AVAST etc will also try their hardest to detect your current drivers and install updates with your manual approval or automatically. Many softwares have specific function or configuration built around a specific driver version........... If rollback doesnt work download the driver version, park on your deskptop and install it manually. Once you get it working keep using the same cable on the same physical port of your computer if you can in the future.

From the release I have and for the AP or BP radio family USB driver is PL23XX_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v4300

**If your using a generic Chinese PC155 without the CPS/DL switch I believe its a simple case of hold the PTT button and switch the radio on , wait for the solid TX light indicator, hear the USB detection "ding" and your ready to go for firmware upgrades in Download Mode as Hytera call it. If it doesnt work the first time repeat the process over until it does.

*** The days of Chinese pirate Prolific drivers are pretty much over for cables and radios more recently on the market. They tend to use WCH and SiLabs chipsets and drivers which are different and cheaper alternatives for USB deivces. Windows now also includes pirate prolific driver checks as part of its monthly security updates from memory in last versions of WIN7 64bit PRO and onwards, something like that.
