Over the past 10+ years, I have literally spent hundreds of hours and tried TONS of and all sorts of “solutions“ to connect one of my repeaters to Zello.
I’ve tried everything from directly connecting hardware (pc / software / audio boards / signalllink / eBay ”solutions” / etc)
to using a “donor“ mobile or portable (located fairly close to the repeater & at 1 mile distance) and wired to the all of that same gear.
Virtually everything I tried ended up being either nonfunctional or “glitchy”.
It was extremely frustrating and difficult to troubleshoot since the “glitches“ were usually intermittent.
Repeaters:
Analog: (Motorola Quantar / Motorola GR-1225)
P25: (Motorola Quantar)
DMR & Mixed-Mode DMR+Analog: (Hytera RD-982 / Hytera MD-782+MD-782 “homebrew” / Motorola XPR-8400)
Mobiles / Portables:
Motorola: G1225 / G300 (limited to 25KHz spacing) / XPR-4550 / Astro-Spectra / XPR-5550 / XTL-2500 /
XPR-7550e / XTL-2500 / XTS-2500 / JT-1000
Hytera: MD-782 / PD-682 / PD-782 + 782G / PD-982 / XP-1
THEN, I saw a YouTube video showing the Solidtronics (first saw model 3) being used as an interface to Zello and several other providers, like Azetti and others. There was virtually no info or details, other than a user demonstrating the system.
I opted to abandon any hope of interconnection with Zello At that point. The came the Fauci Hunger (& toilet paper) Games. 🫣😆 I had extra free time and discovered a Chinese language Solidtronics ST-4 video.
I ended up ordering one, along with specialized cables for several portable and mobile radios.
It was all pretty pricey for what looked like cheap hardware, the interface cables were expensive as well.
And.. the shipping was pretty to boot. (from HK).
It took a few weeks to arrive and came with nearly no instructions or documentation.
BUT —>>. IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY !
The only issue is lack of support for some configuration options and future issues.
Other than that, it’s been a great solution for me.
Note - it comes with an AC to DC “wall wart” power supply.
BE CAREFUL - IT IS 5VDC ! The unit input is 5-6vdc and a paper note enclosed said something about “magic smoke“ if a higher voltage is used.
Good Luck!
