New update, the party that was hit by a car was a pedestrian helping another party in a vehicle and was then struck by a car in the fast lane and it is a possible 5-6 car TA now.

SB lanes of I-25 reopened about 0130hrs.

From: http://www.9news.com/news/local/article.aspx?storyid=103579&catid=346

A good Samaritan that had stopped to check on injuries of a four car accident on southbound Interstate 25 between Berthoud and Mead was hit.
The original two car rear-end accident occurred near mile post 246 on southbound I-25 at the beginning of a construction zone according to Colorado State Patrol.
The good Samaritan stopped to help when he was struck by a white Saturn driven by a 17 year old male and thrown to the ground.
The good Samaritan was transported by air to Denver Health Medical with a severe head injury.
Three other people were transported to area hospital with minor injuries due to the original rear-end accident.
The 17 year old male will be charged with careless driving causing bodily injuries.
According to Colorado State Patrol speed is a factor and under investigation in this accident.
The speed limit at the time of the collision was posted at 60mph.
"Anytime you're in a construction zone, you need to pay attention, you need to be careful, you need to obey the posted speed limit," said Sgt. Dennis Schenkenberger, Colorado State Patrol.

It's posted 55 through that stretch with some interesting lane changes and turns but getting the people to adhere to it is impossible. Average speed is typically 75+ unless CSP does a saturation operation in the area then suddenly they act like angels.

This stretch is along my commute route and I've seen way to many cars stacked up in that construction zone this year.

I'll second that. That stretch might as well have a checkerboard paint job on the pavement down at Hwy 7 for SBers. As a matter of fact, they might as well make the start line at the WY border.

I've traveled every mile of Intersate in CO and that whole section of I-25 from WY to Hwy 7 needs more LE attention for speeders than any other IMO.

I was able to avoid continuing a chain reaction accident a couple months ago during the morning rush. People follow to close and drive too damn fast. I see them speeding around me like they are on their way to a fire. I think to myself, what could be so damn important that your willing to risk your life or someone else's. People have this false sense of importance. They are far more busy and far more important than any one of us therefore they have to speed to get there and get things done. That or their just irresponsible and can't get up early enough to get to work on time. There is no place for CSP to make traffic stops in that area without suffering the same fate as the good samaritan. They have to wait down by 52 to get them stopped. I believe an airplane a couple times a week would really get people wondering if their being watched or not. That's the only thing that keeps people honest. There I've vented. Have a good day.

the problem is working the two laned portion sometimes creates more of a risk than reward, there was times working rush hour, the ratio of crashes to traffic stops was too high, We went thru the same cycle when they were expanding 25 from 7 to 52....25 is a safety target for that troop...but you can only catch so many fish with one hook

I'd give Troop a radar gun and a paintball gun at the entry to the zone. At the other end another trooper would pull over the cars that were splatted. Probably use a case of balls every 15 minutes.....

I go to work really early to avoid the onset of the stupidity rush thru there. On the leading edge of the rush the variation in speeds isn't too great. Later in the rush the speeders are even faster while the traffic is denser. Dumbth.

Thanks for doing the job Troop. If it were me on patrol there'd be a sudden, dramatic increase in suspects getting shot while thinking of escaping. (HTOs in particular)
