I stopped listening to my local PD when they went digital monitoring on VHF as a kid and later a discriminator tapped PRO-37, data slicer and a PRO-2006 with an Opto456 to tune the channels on the 'new' trunked system!

Recently I wanted to get back to it and noticed multicast is a thing now and you need that big money SDS 200 to avoid issues. I'm too cheap for that so I plugged in two RTL V3's and installed SDTrunk0.6.1 on my laptop and am truly amazed!! It works perfect.

It took me 5 minutes to install and get it working and another 5 minutes to understand aliases!! Record option is sweet!! Had to use the PRO-2006 earphone jack into my 8bit soundblaster last time I was doing this and record massive .wav files lol. It easily handles this massive Broward County system. Used it in Monroe County Florida Keys that isn't multicast and it was outstanding as well.

Now team that up with Trunking Recorder, and it will no longer be a scanner, but will record and play every single transmission in their entirety. And best yet, play it on your computers in other rooms or your phone on the go.

This is in my near future!! Have a few more dongles on the way lol. For now I am loving exploring other trunked systems around here I never had access to before!!

Multicast? You mean simulcast... ;)

Indeed I do!! I'm so excited by all these new monitoring opportunities I can't think straight lol
