If this is tongue in cheek...well played.

If you're dead serious...I suggest you catch up on the status of the NYS SWN project for the answer to your "job security" concerns.

tongue in cheek most definitely. I am surprised with all the recent developments with the SWN that the would even consider hiring for that position.

I definitely LOL'd reading it, like I said, very well played. I did feel a little bad for a minute because I thought "Hmm...what if this guy is really looking for work?" Yeah, it's amazing they would actually advertise an opening for this thing. Must be some good stuff they're smoking!

All kidding aside,

If you are currently unemployed and you are qualified there is no reason not to take it 9assuming you can get it). After all if and when they let you go it would be through no fault of your own and it is always better to be looking for work when you already have a job.

Personally I might apply for it just to see what it was about. But if you are currently employed, I would hesitate to bail out. The grass is hardly ever greener on the other side.

But hey they are growing!!! At the top of the ad they had 94,000 emplyees worldwide and near the bottom they have 100,000 employees. That's a growth of 6,000 employees in just the time it took to write the ad (now that is what I call tounge in cheek)

At the least, you could most likely transfer down to PA if/when the NY system finally sinks to the bottom of the ocean...

If you get into Tyco I know they hire for EDACS Technicians and have internal program cert's like Master EDACS Technician. If Tyco was hiring by me I sure as hell would apply. I think with Tyco it helps to have at least an associates ( or near one) in a technical field and a General Class license would help. I'm in automotive skilled trades with a journeyman's card and 3 years of school under my belt and I am seriously thinking of getting out before the roof falls on my head.

I'm starting school back up in January. I have an associates paid for by work. Also have 30 CJ credits from my younger days. I may complete my associates in CJ and also expand into the electronics or engineering field- talking to a counselor next week.

The degree is required. The FCC license does not mean your ham license either, in case some where wondering. Though a tricked out ham license could (for the principials of RF), your eletronics degree will be covering most of what your going to need to know (electronic trouble shooting more than RF).
