Hello:

I am using a HOME PATROL Scanner---and have noticed some wrong information coming up on my screen and I don't know who or how to submit this for changing or what is going on. It appears to be a wrong label appearing on the screen.

I live in Miami County KS and I can pick up and listen to Johnson County KS frequencies and trunked systems etc.,

When scanning I am picking up Johnson Counties Fire/EMS but when I am listening to it, it is coming up showing Miami County KS, EMS.

So, not sure what the procedures are and how to go about letting people know this isn't coming up right on my radio.

Any help and "Education" you all can share with me would be greatly appreciated.

Well the proper way to do it is to identify the frequency or system/talk group and then go to the appropriate page in the database and click on the submit button. That said, you have described what I think is probably the most difficult situations, that is something is wrong in two places at the same time. :D

Since you are a new user here, please describe your observations using as much detail as possible and I will see if we can't solve the problem or explain what is happening.

Here is what I am observing on my HOME PATROL----

The top box says: Kansas Statewide Interoperational Community
The Middle box says: Miami County
The bottom box reads: Miami County EMS DIspatch--Talkgroup ID675.

Miami County is NOT trunked or digital they are conventional.

The transmissions I am hearing are from Johnson County Kansas to my North that I am hearing.

So, I am not sure if the label is wrong or what it is that is going on here.

I hope this helps---If you need any thing else please let me know.

Thank you so much for helping me as I am new to this and it is nice to have a friendly person reaching a hand out to help another person. Nice to know there are still nice people in this world.

Well, obviously Miami Co EMS is using the KSICS system. They have a set of talk groups and as KE5TLF points out, they are dispatched by the Johnson Co. ECC. Since you are hearing them on the KCICS system, obviously they either are moving to the TRS or at least are simulcasting there. Are you still occasionally getting them on the conventional channel?

What I found interesting is that Johnson Co. has no TGs on the system themselves.

More information-----

All I can say, is all the dispatching on this is always for locations up in Johnson County, KS----I have NOT heard them dispatch for Miami County.

I do know Miami County is normally dispatched out of Paola from the Sheriffs office dispatch center, and also uses pager tones as well.

To my knowledge thus far the ONLY changes that I am aware of in Miami County is they are moving to "Mobile repeaters" on patrol cars to get better reception from far reaches of the rural area here.

I do know that Miami County and Johnson County do have an area they both serve and that would be Springhill Kansas so I know they have joint communications or mutual aide that they sometimes use.

If I heard more of Miami County EMS ambulances etc., being dispatched with roads down in this county I'd say yes they are testing new things. However all I seem to hear is Johnson County Fire and roads up there on that tag or channel.

So, I am confused, but I am sure there are a lot more scanner enthusiasts from Miami County that are also tracking this information and if it was a big issue I'd think you all would have heard about it too by others more than just me, before now.

So, I am presuming then that this is indeed correct and will let it go and keep listening. If you have any other insight let me know---

Thank you again!

Thanks for the help----sounds like they are doing some of this ---maybe because they jointly work with Johnson County, KS for Springhill area. So will keep listening and see if I hear of any thing being dispatched the digital way here in Miami County. Most I have heard seems to be coming from the Sheriff's dispatch office and most of the time the fire/EMS is dispatched first by pager tone alert and so forth. As I mentioned to the other gentleman, I do know they are using mobile repeaters in the Sheriffs office to help communications from far reaches of rural areas. However, as mentioned all I am hearing on that is Med-Act EMS in Johnson County 99% of the time.

Well, actually you may have stumbled on to something. Understand that the all of the data we have in the database is member supplied. That means folks like you. Of that information the vast majority of that is due to monitoring and figuring things out based on what you hear. That said, it is entirely possible that whoever submitted the data on Miami Co. EMS could have gotten it completely wrong, maybe it is Johnson Co. EMS. I am not there so I can't say and I can't independently figure it out from down here in Texas.

So, continue to listen and verify your initial impressions and if we have something wrong, submit corrections. :)
