Ed I think you should know that all police radios have an I-call number such as 712345. That would include each hand held that each of the sworn officers have and some of the civilian employees. Also, each car has an I-Call number assigned to it. There are roughly 1200 sworn officers in CMPD alone. With that said, the majority of the radios can not make I-call calls but they can all receive them.
For example, a sargeant can use his HT to I-call any officer. But the beat officer usually can not make an I-call to his sargeant. (There are exceptions though based on required need.) Medic, fire and sheriff units also have I-call on their radios. Each agency is charged a fee for the number of radios that can make I-call calls. Based on this a directory is not really practical.

I can help you out some.

The I call or PID# as Meck calls it has prefixes like phone numbers.

ex 714 and then 3 more numbers is going to be a SHP PID number
7254 and 2 numbers will be Matthews

It might be interesting to set up to listen to particular agencies PID calls.

I wish I knew how to set it up on my Pro95 so I could hear them all. Officers say some bad things when they don't think other officers can hear.

re I-CALLS

I have quite a list of these numbers. There are alot of #s left, but I listen mainly at nite so I get mostly PD.Quite alot of interesting info passed along, plus some not so good stuff(as with all scanning).I programmed all of CMPDs "souyh" freqs, and about 60 of my I-CALLS #s.My scanner(BC785D)has the I-CALL option that lets me recieve TGs&I-CALLs or only I CALLs. I will play around with this for awhile before giving up on it.I have a list started if anyone is interested or has one of thier own,I would like to see it.Ed

I have the BC246 and was under the assumption that if you programmed a specific I-Call TG ID you would not hear the response because the responder would have a different I-Call TG ID. I do have the I-Call wildcard programmed, so I do hear I-Calls and responses, but never thought I could get as specific as a particular I-Call TG and hear the response.
Am I incorrect?
Would be nice becuase alot of the I-Call conversations are not Public Service related. This is my first scanner that has I-Call enabled. Quite an enlightenment to say the least!!!

re I-CALLS

I am not all that fimiliar with all of it yet,but from what i have is this,I belive the #s I have are individual units. When one talks his I-CALL # is displayed. When the person he is talking to speaks both #s are now displayed. That is how I am building my database.I am currently working on only PD#s but have quite a dew FD EMS #s too.I find that the ones I have programmed in my scanner, can be monitored.Sometimes there is not much conversation, but other times there is quite a bit. Thats why I use it as part of my scanning sched.Bill told me there must be thousands of these numbers. So I am trying to wittle it down to most interesting #s.It takes alot of monitoring to sort these out,but thats part of why I got this scanner.Ed

Darned,
What scanner are you using, and how are you specifically identifying who is talking? I.e. agency, or even more specific like Matthews Sgt?
Feel free to post some of what you have found!

Icalls

I dont have many specific names for who Im listening to,that was the reason I first posted.I thought that someone might be way ahead of me in that department. Most of the time they refer to each other by their name not their area or rank. Some time you might hear them call someone sarge or smoething like that.I will post what I have ,it will have to be later possibly tonite.ED

These "I-call" numbers you're talking about are also referred to as "Radio IDs" or RIDs.

If you can find a scanner with a discriminator tap, run trunker (the TRS control channel decoding software) and it will give you a listing of all RIDs that it sees in use on the system.

You still have to associate a number with user description based on what you hear, but it might be an easier way to build your database.

Look http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=19 here for more details on trunker.

Basically, it decodes the control channel data (frequencies, talkgroups, radio IDs, system ID, etc.) and displays the information real-time on your computer screen.

It requires the receiving radio to have a discriminator tap installed on it, which typically isn't hard to do if you're somewhat handy with a soldering iron.

Note that there is a version of trunker available now that runs in Windows (as opposed to DOS) and uses the sound card input, negating the need for the slicer/hamcom/2-level interface circuit.

Check the trunker/etrunker forum on this site for even more information.
