Anyone know why the I-Call feature on the Sheboygan County Trunked System isn't used?

We don't use ours either, I guess it's just an admin decision. Never even been trained on how to work it.

Sometimes the agency might decide not to use I-calls so as not to over-load the system. Imagine an average county or agency with an 8 channel system: 1 channel used for the CC, that leaves 7 channels, now add three people 'chatting' on I-calls that leaves you 4 channels. Then you get the dog catcher and some other public utility doing their business, that leaves you 2 channels for regular or emergency public safety use for about 12 other agencies. Of course, the radios could be configured to give public safety priority on the system but still, they might be short periods of time that somebody might not be able to talk at a critical moment. If those three people weren't BS'ing on I-call they could have 5 channels available. They could be using a cellphone instead of tying up the system so to speak.

Anyway, that's just one scenario, I could be wrong! ;)

I've only heard I-Call used on the Sheboygan County System five or six times in the past year. MEG Units and SWAT Teams appear to be the only authorized users of I-Call.

1-Calls on TRS around Milwaukee, WI

Hello People,

There are four TRS around Milwaukee: Greenfield, Milwaukee County, Ozaukee County, and Waukesha County. Out of these four systems, only two of them use 1-Calls.

The Milwaukee County sheriff and the Milwaukee County bus to public safety use 1-Calls on the Milwaukee County system but not too often.

The police departments on the Ozaukee County TRS are the big users of 1-Calls. 1-Calls are an everyday thing for them. These person to person calls are interesting to listen to. Too bad that more users don't use them.

I-call

Strange that Ozaukee County would be a heavy user of I-call.
Anyone know if I-call is used in Madison or Green Bay?

Not sure where people have been making up these talk-groups and rules regarding things such as I-Call. I-call is and has been used quite often by the Sheboygan Co. Sheriff's Dept. It is not restricted to anyone like MEG or SWAT in fact Trunker shows they have NEVER used it. Please don't post made-up claims like this. Chances are, most dept's don't know what it is because radio training in the county has been poor to put it mildly. The late night dispatchers and patrols for the county seem to have a good grasp on the radio system's capabilities and you will hear I-calls used often then. Keep in mind these can be and many times are DES encrypted.

Where are you getting your information from???
From my home in Ozaukee County I monitor not only the Ozaukee County Trunked System, but also Trunked Public Safety System's in Milwaukee County, Waukesha County, Sheboygan County and have never heard encryption used on I-Call's.

After reading triryche's post again I would also add that I-Call is rarely used in Sheboygan County.

I monitor the Milwaukee County TRS a lot and I feel very confident saying the Sheriff's Dept never uses I-Call,a lot of times the County transit security people (Wackenhut Security) use I-Call and sound a lot like cops.
The closest thing to a private call for MCSO is talkgroup 23152 which the dispatcher doesn't have on the console and can't be monitored by other squads in scan mode.

RE: Sheboygan Co.:
Trunker software shows a total of 23 radios have used I-call at least a dozen or more times in the last year; some many more. 18 of these radios are Sheriff mobiles, 2 are portables, and the other 3 are Sheriff consoles (dispatchers). Approx. 60% of the transmissions made on the I-call select are DES encrypted. This is a numbers summary from the computer side. I can also add from my personal listening, I-Call is used occasionally, not every day, by the Sheriff's Dept. primarily on 3rd shift. Nobody else has used it by my recollection or based on the computer summary.

RE: Ozaukee Co.:
ALL police agencies regularly use I-call and phone patches. Encryption not used.

My information comes from ME, colleagues, and the from the users of the radios on the system. Where do you think the TG plan that has several added errors came from that Radio Shack charges you for? Thankfully I never gave them a programming sheet from Milwaukee 2-Way.
