I have a Uniden Bearcat BC148XLT-1 20 channe, Base scanner. It works great but all I can get is the weatehr channel. I have the new frequency chart but on the scanner Iit only takes 6 nimbers...like 123.456 and all the new ones have 7 numbers. Does this mean my scanner is to old and I won't be able to program anyhting?
I bought this at a yard sale and I think it is from 1993 or 1994.
Thanks. :?

No frequencies you would need have 7 digits in them - what are you referring to?

For some of them you do. pberk- if you take off the last digit, the volume will be distorted but it should still come in, it could be staticy too.

Seven digits

The Scanner Frequencies pages that I have all have 7 numbers. Like the Cop Shop is 151.2350...a arm one is 151.6850..there are only 4 on my 3 page list with 6 numbers and they are business here in town.
I have been trying to program it.

Those aren't seven digit frequencies, the 0 doesn't count as a number, so i guess i don't get what you are saying.

Except he gave us 151.235 and 151.685, which is only 6 digits each.

Rounding off

So you are sayin that if it shows me on the paper that the number is 151.2350..to program it I will leave the 0 off? If that is correct what do I do with the few on my list that are like, 35.9800. That is 6 numbers so do I use all thos?
Sorry, this is my first attemt to use a scanner and I do appreciate any info and help.

Like I already said you do not have to add that LAST 0.

Yup, 35.9800=35.98 and 151.2350=151.235, The 0 is a filler, it's not a part of the frequency. You don't have to be sorry!!

Only if it is a 0, It it has a 5 (the only number it can be) than program it as 173.237 (It may not take this) or 173.238 (It may not take this either). The signal will be distoroted a little though.

another question

OK got it and thanks a bunch.
Do you listen to the Police one often? I have it programmed in and don't know if I should be hearing something all the time or if it is total silence until something is going on.
We live in the country and my husband would like the weather one, which I have on it and the police one. So lets hope I can do it. I am the one that gets to do the satelite settings and stuff LOL.

I listen to the police and Fire/EMS department 24 Hours a day. I live in Houston, Texas so it is really busy and they talk all of the time.

A scanner that won't take the hundreds of Hz digit (the 5 in the above example of 173.2375) won't be narrow-banded enouogh for you to hear any difference when it's 0.5 KHz off frequency. (The newer "older" scanners were 15 KHz wide, the older "older" ones were 30 KHz wide - at best. Some scanners were 50 KHz or more wide, so even a few KHz error wouldn't make any difference.)
