I found a scanner

ok after some thinking and searching I have decides to get into the scanning hobby
my little BC72XLT I bought yesterday will not perform the tasks I would Like. From what I have read the BC296D has everything I need (I hope)

So I found a BC 296D few months old for $350 US comes with everything INCL shipping is this a good price? Any tips on getting it here without paying some scary fees??

Not that I'm answering your question, mind you, but have you ever thought of taking a drive over the border? Just to see what the US looks like, I mean?

First of all, ignore Al42. Looks like he's trying to up his post count again.

The only fee you can really avoid is the high brokerage/handling charges some couriers will charge. UPS is probably the worst of the bunch. If you can get it shipped USPS, then you'll pay under $10 for Canada Post to clear the package.

GST/PST will be added in automatically by whatever courier service you use.

There are no duties on scanners so you won't have to worry about that.

You could visit the US as Al42 says but hopefully it's a local pickup. You'll probably end up paying a bridge toll both ways which will cost a few bucks and you'll still have the cost of gas if you don't live close to the border.

I used to have stuff shipped to Niagara Falls, NY and pick it up there. Clearing it myself meant no brokerage/handling charges but I still got dinged for GST/PST. MBE also charged a few bucks for accepting and holding the package for me.

No Duties???

I'm sure I'm not the only 1 who has paid duties on scanners.
$45 on 1 i bought out of Radio Shack a few years ago and again on a few
I bought from EBay. Anyone else paid duty on a scanner?

Duty or taxes? How much did your scanner cost and what were the extra fees charged?

I've imported at least 10 scanners over the border and have never paid duty.

If you've been charged $45 duty then you've overpaid.

when i got my 246 from a guy in the US I had to pay, gst and pst, also had to pay a $8 customs handling fee.
