The Scantenna rules, period. I've had one for about 4 years now and it's the best antenna of its type, imho.

Just look at this beauty :)

Is that a homemade brace? Can you get a closeup?

I look at mine each time i go outside, a piece of art :p
and this antenna is the best of its type, it's litle flimzy but should last quite a few years, we dont get too much wind around here.
and ive now added guy wires , much more solid now.

My 20-176 has been a warrior. Ice,summer heat and 3 near tornados and she sill hears well.I too am pondering the scantenna.Seems it will be a big plus from what I've seen here in the forum. As far as the mast working as a deflector. How would a section on pvc placed over the mast work?Kind of like a sheath.Too gaudy or a possiblity.Anyone tried this?Your mount job looks great.Hope mine does that well.If you could compare the two let me know.We have local conv.pds with the state on apco 25.Some 800 trunking about 35 miles away which I use a tv amp to help pull out.

I think too much is being made of the *slight* directivity of the ST2 on a metal mast.

It just isn't that directional. It has a slightly "cardoid" pattern, that's all. Nothing to get all that worked up about.

I agree with that, It serves me well in all directions, just a bit better in the direction its facing, nothing near that of a Yagi and I have them both. Just enough that you can notice it and take advantage of it atleast for me. Its kinda funny Dubbin and I were shooting the breeze on reception and had both noticed it. Guess it could be somewhat of a terrain factor there, as Steve W. lives in hillier terrain and really didn't notice anything.............Hoser

Here it is. Yes, it's completely homemade. 2x4's, tablesaw, and some leftover exterior house paint. Sorry for the sloppy black spray job. ;)

Just ordered one myself. Since my Home Owners Ass. won't let me mount it outdoors, I plan to set it up in my attic. My house is the highest in the neighborhood and I'll be mounting in the attic above my 2nd floor. I hope this works decently. As of right now, I am just using a RS800 and Larson RD9 stuck in my upstairs window. LOL

I am pretty much dead center of Dallas/Fort Worth (Arlington) so I am hoping to get some new signals to monitor or at least boost the weaker ones.

Placed order with 2-day shipping.. I know what I'll be doing Thurs night... LOL

Hang a bit of ivy on the scantenna to fool the homeowners assn. :)

If I wasn't on the corner and they weren't such....uh...."fun people"
I would think about it... LOL

I am guessing it'll end up about 30ft above ground once in place. The nice thing, the highest part of the attic is right over my upstairs office that I use...So I won't need that full 50ft...

I received my (second) ST2 (scantenna) today and i will be mounting it horizonal this weekend, i will post the results after 2-3 day's of scanning different locations in comparison to the one i have mounted vertical.

I will mount at the same elevation to make the comparison as fair as possible, i will also mount far enough away from the other antenna's as to not cause any interference.

Look for my results in about a week........

And of course pics will be included

Great reading here guys! Awsome pics too. I'm thinking about a Scantenna too and your exchange here is very informative-thanks! I run a discone by Antenna Specialists that serves really well on 800 trunked, not bad at 450 and ok at vhf low,so you got me thinking about one like yours on a switcable line like Lee. Enjoy your rigs! 73s;)
