I had a situation yesterday where a couple of the MDOT plow truck drivers were transmitting on one of the I-tac freqs. Someone must have told them they couldn't be heard or something because they were talking about personal stuff and using the F-word alot. I didn't need the grandkids hearing all that so I gave their boss a call and asked if he would take care of the situation.

I could hear them for about 7 or 8 miles as they headed south.

I would do it again if I heard someone talking like that.

Good. Thanks for doing that. I believe it is a violation of FCC regulations, just like with commercial radio, to broadcast any profanity.

I've heard some pilots talking on certain frequencies about adult content and swearing on the radio. I didn't really care though. It didn't offend me.

They were still on the road when I talked to the boss.

I didn't try to identify them by truck number or anything because I figured a reminder to all was a good thing.

Keep in mind that one big reason that public safety agencies switch to some form of encryption is because of people who eavesdrop on their conversations and repeat to other people what they hear on their scanners,I'm not saying that it is acceptable to use foul language on the air,but I would maybe consider changing the channel or locking out the talkgroup.I know that this was one of the major reasons that one of the larger Police Departments on the West side of the State decided to go with digital encryption. If they believe they can't be heard,oh' well let them believe it.They will eventually get caught misusing the radio waves

When MPSC first started this sytem, alot of agencies thought they could not be heard by private citizens. I can't remember his name but a State Police Sargenat who is now retired but was stationed at post 53 in Niles told me at the time, that these frquencies were secret and private citizens would not be able to monitor the
Michigan State Police. Of course, this was falese, but somehow in selling this system, this thought was pretty common.
