First and foremost, I have ran many scanners. I've had years and years in radio. Uniden is a great scanner company please don't get me wrong. Maybe we are spoiled from the insight UPMAN, in a almost funny way, of new developments.

I guess the reason I'm writing this is in hopes that Uniden will look at what UPMAN brought to this board, a company which they have a working relationship with.

Similar, Whistler brought Whistler Wendy to be on par with the public outreach Uniden had done or was doing.

I won't say who did better on public engagement, I think going through this board and searching would show the public engagement by the companies.

I truly and honestly hope no company losses sight of this market. While this market isn't as crowded as; Security cameras, Radar detectors, CB radios, etc. I think it is safe to say the price point per unit is a market not to be overlooked.

I would like to believe that UPMAN was training a replacement. I speak to this from a business aspect. A simple car wreck could shut down a division of a company, a health emergency shuts it down. UnidenSupport has been silent since the end of last year.

I would like an honest discussion on if you.... YOU were person making the calls on what you wanted to head up the scanner division of the company be it Uniden or Whistler or XYZ scanner company. This isn't about, "I want a scanner that will do DC to Daylight, scan rate 5 million channels a second, all modes, Simulcast no issue, etc." (You get the picture).

I guess for me, I would say the public/consumer engagement is huge. Not just a robot response but a real human response. When NXDN came out for the x36HP series I asked I wish we could know what number I was on buying the upgrade. UPMAN responded, "11". That doesn't seem like much, but to me, it showed an honest connection between manufacture and consumer.

I'm rambling, but I think I speak for many, we all miss the connection we had. I really hope Uniden doesn't lose that.

I can understand why you would hate wanting to start this.

This has been something that has been discussed in many many threads.

Good marketing, good customer service, resolving complaints and issues, updating and maintaining their present models and frequent interaction with customers on a forum like this are all good business practices, it is the mark of a good company. It's up to that company how they run their business, customers have very little influence over that no matter what we say in numerous posts.

When Paul went out sick for the last time it was always his goal, per his blog, to achieve successful treatment and return to work ASAP. It wasn't part of his plan to train someone in the event that he couldn't return. He fully intended on returning quickly. One cannot be trained to do what Paul did, as has been said, he was one of a kind.

The complications of surgery, the aggressiveness of his cancer and complications of chemotherapy was a tremendous challenge and he fought the good fight.

No one knows what the plans of Uniden are and all we can go by is what we see, now there are unforeseen circumstances that will affect every business.

All we can do is wait and see what happens. Uniden tech support has a system in place. We can hope for the best and cooperate and work within the system that we have to our best advantage.

It is what it is.

I wish for the user UnidenSupport to become more present in the forums I do miss the postings of UPMan on things. As for Whistler before Wendy Don Starr the person that posted for GRE AMERICA and that is missed also. If any Corporate Members are here I wish they would speak up and tell us the direction they are heading.

I think we need to keep some perspective on this- our hobby or use of scanners is a niche market for these manufacturers. We know how important their products are to us but I think we are a very small revenue generator for them. Who knows? I am also a ham radio enthusiast and as a group we have many more options available to us and greater representation across the board. If more people speak up and speak out about the products we are buying (at considerable expense) and using- some with good results, some not so good we might get their attention. Also, if we could get the major dealers to speak up when users have problems that fall on deaf ears some action may be taken. UPMan was a tremendous resource to our hobby and is sadly missed.

That would be an excellent scenario.
