• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I recently purchased 2 VHF Quantars from FD's. when I first turned them on they had RX fail lights. I read one of my working quantars and dumped that program into them, I now get a PA fail, I have a dummy load on the TX line. and the RX fail went away. but when I try to reread them i get a message saying there is no code plug in the device.
I cannot key them . I have version R14.11.00. RSS. I can put the original program back into them and read them just fine. do I have a software controller mismatch or what.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Did you remember to read and archive their original files before changing anything?

If so, put the original files back in them and test.

If that works, then edit those original files to make new versions that are configured the way you want them.

Read the radio.
Edit your desired changes into the codeplug that's in the RSS.
Go to the hardware configuration screen and click on "Validate Configuration"
Correct whatever the RSS tells you is wrong.

I would temporarily swap a good receiver in and see what happens. You could also put the suspected bad controller in a good repeater and see where that goes. Just don't do anything to the good controller so you don't loose its stored parameters.

If your connected it should tell you why its in fail. If it was in a simulcast system most likely external reference is on and needs disabled. AS said put the original codeplug back in it. You can't change bands on a quantar regardless what the controller shows without swapping boards.

If the station is set up for external ref and there is none there will also be no lock light on the exciter.

I guess hardware config does not get over wrote. it all works now. funny thing is my friend Scott Stanford whom I just had lunch with down the street told me same thing but for some reason I did not take his advise and I had to just apologize to him. Maybe next time I'll listen to him. Kudos everyone and Thanks again.

Glad you got it working, otherwise I would have offered $100 for the chassis and power supply.

First no on this one but clean working 800 Quantars come up now and then for $150 including shipping. That gets you a nice chassis, power supply, control card and wireline card cheap. Not to mention the two free UHF range 1s and one VHF range 2 I got from a local Govt agency.

 I'm guessing that you have heard the word "no" a few times.
