Hey everyone.
I recently ordered the Uniden BCD396T and it will be shipping hopefully Tuesday.
I am looking at the Freescan software to download frequencies and info in my area.
I am primarily interested in listening to Clark, Skamania and Cowlitz county sheriffs as well as
Vancouver PD, WSP and fire as well. Also like to listen to Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas county sheriffs as well as OSP,PPB and fire and related ambulance calls too. Whew!
Anyway, I have been reading quite a few threads and thought I would ask you locals if the Freescan is a good program to use for a newbie that has never programmed a scanner before (my Pro-95 was cloned at RS when I bought it). A software for dummies so to speak.
I do understand that there is a learning curve for this but looks like the software might make it quite a bit easier.
If you guys could let me know what you use or what you used at first so I can decide whether the freeware is best or if a purchased software would make it easier for first time programming.
And lastly does anyone have an available current frequency list for Portland/Vancouver? Certainly not trying to overstep my bounds but from what I have read sometimes those lists are shared. If not than I will
shoot from the hip.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't have the 396T but I use FREESCAN, PROSCAN, ARC996 and ARC XT and in my opinion FREESCAN will do just fine. Each has it's own little things to like or dislike about it, but, you just can't beat FREE!

I did borrow a 396XT and cloned my 996XT for a DEMO and it worked fine.

Hey thanks lowboy.
I have seen and read the bottom two but did not see the top one about the user guide.
Looks like thats what I need.
I will proceed from there.....

If you have installed FS, you can get to our wiki based user guide by clicking on 'help/online help'

[edit] One other thing you will likely need is a USB-serial converter, unless you have an older PC with a real serial port on it. This article lists a few that are known to work besides the USB1 - many off the shelf ones will also work - and most importantly, how to use Device Manager when diagnosing issues...
