• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I do want to experiment with a different speaker choice for the radio. I can't help but thinking that a higher fidelity speaker
will slightly improve intelligibility than the stock 4" speaker in the housing. And if not, it was a cheap experiment.
Run it into you AUX jack on in your vehicle with a TRS plug. Works pretty decent

TRS plug? No idea which one that is and didn't see it in the install manual. Please clarify in case I've misread something.

In my vehicle the system control head will be on the remote/canbus line and the radio brick will be bolted way at the back. Rather than run any audio lines all the way to the front it seems that tapping the speaker jack on the back of the control head is easiest?

I made a custom power, CAN and DB to ethernet junction to ethernet thing. I run power + on one pair, - on another which leaves a pair for CAN and a pair for audio. The other end is a custom DB25 which brings it all out to the HHCH. It makes for a nice clean single wire solution to run the HHCH to the brick for about as long as you practically need.

TRS = Tip Ring Sleeve plug. A stereo plug for your vehicle's AUX audio input jack. Just be careful about the level. The AUX jack is usually looking for a line level signal, not a speaker level signal, so you'd keep the radio volume level really low, or pad it down with resistors.

Thanks for spelling it out for me! TRS sounds like old telco terminology. 1/8" stereo plug is easy to recognize.

Anyhow, I’ve run my 857D’s low level earphone audio that way but you’ve got to have the ignition key on. Running speaker level audio into Aux is fraught with issues if the radio output is a balanced driver without a ground reference so some sort of isolation transformer would be in order and possibly a resistive attenuator to prevent overdrive. We could go full mcgyver and throw in a 12v relay that would switch back to a speaker when the ignition key is off?😎

I think I’ll keep looking for a tradeoif Canbus terminations for 2 pin speaker connectors. 👍👍

You can pull audio from the DB connector too.
If you are referring to the DB 44 on the radio that’s okay if the speaker is nearby and I did build an adapter for testing

However the radio is to be remote mounted so I plan to get audio off of the 721 head and avoid running long speaker lines along the Canbus cable.

Pin 18 and 19 are the speaker out puts from the DB25 on the back of the CH721.
Here's the page from the install manual and a closeup of the pinout list that says something different. Can you please share your source of pinout? I'd like to know if I have the wrong manual

I shouldn't read manuals when I am tired but I wanted to keep digging and saw I looked at the diagram pins on the right but the 25 pin on the left (P1) is the one that plugs into the radio and that shows that you are correct!

I appreciate your comment and I should have some DB-25 male connectors in my numerous boxes in the garage.

This all depends on if your a Harris purist or a hack. A DB25 is easy and available everywhere. The purist seeks out the most complex and expensive option.
I revel in the title of "Hacker", a crown I willingly wear and by the way, it's festooned with CANBUS 120 ohm terminators.

I recently picked up an XG-100M with CH-721 and it won't program. Everytime I program it, even with a blank and default system it gives me an 0500T error (or something like that).

Does anyone know how to fix it? Or how to fix it?

Thanks!

I'd like to have you start your own thread on programming and please get the exact code. Then let me know when you have the thread going.
