Hi everyone. I just bought a SDRPlay RSP1B a couple of weeks ago, and so far I am very disapointed in it. The only things I have been able to pick up on it are the broadcast FM chs, and the NOAA weather Chs. For antennas I use a Discone antenna and a MLA 30 + loop, when those antenna are hooked up to my RTLSDR V 4 I can pick up all sorts of SW stuff and the broadcast AM chs (hooked up to the MLA +). I know I must be doing something stupid, but so far, this thing looks like a waste of a hundred bucks. Any help someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

PS With the RSP1B I have used the SDR connect, and SDR ++ software

You didn't waste a nickle! SDRPLAYS are great units. I have an old SDRPLAY 2 and just bought the RSPrx-R2, yet to be shipped.
Many variables unknown to help you very well.

Sounds like you may not have a setting or 2 just right. Don't give up on it and try not to get frustrated. Watch some YouTube videos to get some ideas. Seeing it done is easier than reading about it.
Most likely something very minimal needs adjusted. Once you get it sorted, you will be staying up way to late in the evening when you should be in bed. Ask me how I know. 😅

Also, try the SDRUNO. They are made for each other....

I messed around with SDR Uno, and I was lost. I wish SDR Sharp worked with it

SDRUno does have a bit of a learning curve for sure, but once you get to know how it operates it is very capable.

The best place to go for something like this is a forum that is specifically targeted to SDRPlay users. Such a forum exists on the popular groups.io server, viz.

It is at that, but trial and error will get you results.
I have been running it (Uno) for quite a few years and just discovered it can scan saved frequencies. Never had a need to do it until I did.😉
Although, I use Uno more for HF and use SDRSharp for VHF air frequencies. Great combo to have in your arsenal.

When its connected, and your trying to scan uhf, can you post screenshots of the spectrum and your rsp settings? Mainly the gain setting.

To add, the SDRPlay RSP's have a different behavior for RF Gain. As you turn it up to max then the noise floor drops. As you turn down the RF Gain the noise floor increases. Use an antenna designed for the band(s) with some db gain and with a counterpoise. I have a OPEK SCANSMA from Ham Radio Outlet the performs best at VHF/UHF mounted to a window A/C. It receives fine.

I always set I.F. AGC to on in SDRuno Main window settings with max RF Gain.

SDR Console is another piece of software that needs to be checked :)
It does have a learning curve at the beggining. Not so big as SDR Uno and a little bigger than SDR++ but on top of that it does add some neat features :)
