Right now, all I have is an old XP pro laptop. I would prefer not having to install Sentinel and connect laptop for awhile to Home Patrol II. During initial power up, can you get around Sentinel install and everything else requiring a computer connection. I believe Sentinel can be installed later. So, what is escape proceedure from the steps requiring computer hookup. Someone mentioned you can touch 6 times on either an icon or maybe power on switch tom get past steps requiring computer.

Computer is not strictly required. However, the database in the scanner is going to be months out of date when you receive it. Depending on the systems in your area this could result in anything from no affect at all to no receive of local systems when using the database in the scanner.

The scanner doesn't force you to load the software, so not sure what the 6 key presses would be for.

No program . Heard a lot of issues incl earphone jack. I owned ur stuff with first frugal

Go Virtual

How about installing a virtual machine on that laptop to use Sentinel? Install Win 7 as the guest OS on the XP host machine.

I'm sure there are better ones, but Virtual PC 2007 is free. It's also the only one I've ever used (years ago...maybe 2007?) so you might want to look for a newer free open source one. You can download it from the maker, Microsoft, here: Download Virtual PC 2007 from Official Microsoft Download Center

VirtualBox.org is another option for a virtual machine.

Best of Luck!
