Hello: I need to know when the very first 200 channel HANDHELD-Uniden
Bearcat scanner was put on the market. I had it many years ago and it was stolen. I have two digital scanners and an old radio shack scanner
and a new Trunktracking handheld. I still miss my original handheld scanner (nothing was blocked out and it was loud). Someone is selling a BC200XLT and I have to make a disison fast. I beleave I bought the radio in the late 1980s. Please help me . I do not want to purchass the wrong radio.

I am not sure about the BC200XLT being the FIRST 200 channel Uniden. I bought mine in 1990 and remember that at the time, it was considered one of the best handheld scanners on the market. I still have mine and use it primarily for Railroad scanning. It does cover VHF-Lo, VHF-Hi, UHF (including 800 mHz).

I'm thinking the 200XLT was late-80s. I think it was the first 200 channel handheld scanner, though. I found an owners manual dated 1992, but I don't know if that was the first edition or not. I tried looking up the FCC ID, but their records apparently don't go back that far.

It's the 200 XLT. I used to drool over it back in the day. I had a 100 and was tortured by the thought that the 200 had 800mhz and an extra 100 channels.

It was probably still one of the best radios I ever had. The sensitivity was great and audio was strong. I wish I still had it.

I concur! I had one back in the early 90's. The Audio was great and the thing was almost bulletproof. The only drawback I can remember was the battery pack and its "memory" problems. Those old Ni-Cads had issues.

Last year, I replaced the Ni-Cad batteries with Nickel Metal Hydride batteries in my BC-200 XLT packs. They last much longer and don't have the memory problems you encounter with Ni-Cads.

I bought the BC200XLT oN ebay . I know I bought my original one in yhe 1980s. This one was purchased in 1990. I hope they didn'n make any changes.

i had a pro 34. it was a 200ch with 800mhz. i think it was one of the first aswell...i think anyone remember that one?

If memory serves, the 200 was one of the first -if not the first - Uniden handheld that experimenters dug into. There are, I'm pretty sure, a BUNCH of mods for that scanner. I've often wished I had the 200xlt in its modded form - some of those mods were very neat.....73s Mike
