• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I/O Error in RSS!!

Ive been trying to read a mts 2000 with 6.7.0 software, and I keep getting an I/O error I have all the required equipment, what can i do to sucessfully read and write to this radio? I get the same errors when I try to read and write to my spectras.

What speed/type/os are you running on the cpu? are you on correct com port? let's start w/the basics. Mike

Im running an IBM thinkpad laptop and a dell desktop, the ibm is 133mhz running windows 3.1 I do have it set up on com1 its the only com port I have, on the dell desktop Im running xp and running the program in a dos shell. on the dell Im getting a protocol entry error. I can retreive codeplugs from an archive and edit them i just cant read or write to the radios. Everything I have is genuine moto stuff just cant get it all to work! please help.

If that's DOS RSS (not CPS) then forget about running it in a DOS window.

Boot into DOS or locate a computer that can be booted into DOS.

Your Windows3.1 computer should be able to do that.

no matter how i boot it up i always get the same error message it is driving me nuts!!! it has to be some kind of internal problem or something isnt set up right I dont know.

If you are using DOS RSS (which your message implies, since you talk about version 6.something), it WILL NOT RUN under WindowsXP. Period. You need to get a DOS Boot disk and boot straight pure DOS in order to run the RSS.

Or get yourself a copy of the Windows CPS.

Also, what do you mean when you say "required equipment"?

The MTS2000 series requires an equipment->rib cable, pc->rib cable, and a rib. They must be plugged into a standard RS232 serial port.

One of the options in the RSS (sorry, can't remember how to get there off the top of my head) is a communications test. What happens when you try that?

The most current version of the programming software for the MTS2000 is part number RVN4176K and runs under Win-95,98,ME,NT,2000 - note that Win3.1 and XP are not listed - this is according to Motorola.

If you're using an older MS-DOS version, I see lots of problems with your set up...

First, 133MHz sounds like a Pentium class processor, which most of the older Motorola RSS programs weren't designed to run on. These programs were designed to run on 8088/80286/80386 class systems - some 80486 processors (with speeds less then 33MHz) will also work.

Secondly, running a MS-DOS program in anything but pure MS-DOS, as someone stated earlier, is going to cause problems - any MS-DOS version from 3.0 through 6.22 will work fine.
