I-Q output

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with using a digital I-Q data output. Is there any good software written at this time to use the I-Q data stream to be used as a band scope? There is an I-Q output on the back of the new Comm Radio CR1-a as well as some other SDR type radios. Does anyone know of these data streams being used for any other useful purposes with appropriate software?
