so i bought this just to get the real copy Pro 2004 Service manual i was going t o fix the screen light i knew was burnt out and then resell it ....but once i got it and cleaned it up and replaced the bad screen light and seen that is has both the cell mod and 100+ch mod .. and some other BNC mod and the fact it has Dan R Kaplan's name and number on the back makes me think i should keep this -- thoughts?

That BNC connector probably goes to the discriminator, see if the lead connects to TP-4 on the board, if so then that is it. It could also be a 10.7 IF mod, if the lead goes elsewhere that would be my guess.

I have two Pro-2006's that work fine but the screen light needs to be replaced in both. Can you PM me and tell me where I can get the new screen lights, and how to replace the old ones?

replaced the bad screen light
Looks like you did a bang up job on that EL screen. That 2004 looks great--don't part with it if it's working for you! Love the vintage stuff!

BTW, how difficult was that EL screen replacement? My soldering skills aren't the best, but they were OK enough to follow Rich's @N9JIG instructions for the 996P2 converter box project, so I guess I could try it with my 2004.

2004 i did NO soldering on .. just cut wires spliced them and taped them ... the 2005 i think you have to and the 2006 i know you have to unsolder a ground to shield right above knobs just to get the screen out of the plastic ... and then you need to solder the new screen in as there is not enough room to do it like the 2004
the 2004 had wire leads on board the 2006 light pins went right into board
so im waiting for some soldering stuff to finish the 2006

Thanks for the link and explanation... my nephew has a 2004 he's not using, and doesn't appreciate. Think I'll see if I can give it a new home.
for sure 2004 is a great radio .. and like i said was way easier as i didnt even have to get the solder gun out. the 2004 2005 and 2006 pretty much are the same as for the light
