Hello All. Help please. Yesterday I made a few changes to my 436 in Sentinel, I might have downloaded a new firmware update (not sure) and when done, my 436 will only scan QK 1. I have 13, and they displayed, but nothing.

Today I downloaded a firmware update for my new SDS100. Everything went well. And again, it only scans QK 1 now. All 13 QK's are displayed, but no luck.

I'm not a complete novice at this. In all years past I never had any issues with Sentinel updating, revising, whatever.
I have gone thru my SDS100 manually and checked all I know to check. I've looked at sentinel as well, no issues I can find.

Interesting to note that I can turn any of the quick keys off or on, but it only hangs on QK 1

Any help Please. There must be a software issue for this to happen with my 436 last night and my SDS100 today.

I would appreciate your help! Thanks. Greg

In Sentinel go to your profiles(s) and under the Quick Keys Status tab make sure all
your favorites lists have a check mark in the box.
Sounds like only quick key 1 is checked.
Also check download and monitor on the scan selection tab.

Quick keys for favorite lists, or for systems/departments within a favorite list?

UPDATE: Mental Breakdown Avoided. I checked all but this yet it was the problem. I went to SET SCAN SELECTION, the MANAGE QUICK KEY STATUS, then SYSTEM QUICK KEY. Each of them were set to OFF. I do not know why. When I downloaded thru sentinel, all was turned ON, so I'm not sure why.

I now have firmware version 1.10.00.

I post this in case anyone else has this issue. Greg

Thank you both for your immediate response. I should have been able to turn those keys on while scanning, and indicated ON, but they were off. I bet I can fix my 436 now. Does anyone know what major changes were made with this update? If not I can look it up I'm sure.

Thanks Again.

Heres a link to the BCD436HP firmware upgrade and info for each firmware upgrade. you said your on firmware 1.10.00? I cant seem to find this version but it might be a beta version. anyhow the most recent version is 1.26.00 which was released back in april 2019. I have the 436 and it works great for me. hopefully you can get your 436 to perform to its full potential.

Probably a little late for now, but something to bear in mind for future updates: Consider doing a Read From Scanner and saving (if needed) any files suggested during the process. Next do the firmware updates and check for functionality.

If you discover any hiccups, you can reload the known working files. That way you'll have all the files that you knew to be working before the firmware update.

I imagine that some way or another, the Quick Keys were turned off in Sentinel. You may have done in without remembering - there is a lot of stuff going on and such things can happen. I believe this because both model scanners were affected and the Sentinel files are the only things in common.

For what its worth, I cannot remember any time where I did a firmware update (and there have been many) where it changed anything in my programming.

I appreciate the tip, something I did not think of. I always knew that if I screwed up something in the scanner, I could dump it all and then download again from sentinel. Are you saying I should do a reverse read from the scanner which will copy all the scanner info back to sentinel? That would make good sense as long as what is in the scanner is good info. Thanks again ofd8001. Greg

Greg after I make changes to all my scanners and test the live scanner then I read scanner to PC and save.
I don't understand. If you are happy with the downloads from sentinel, then why copy it from the scanner back to the software again.?
Perhaps you are saying to give it a new name when you copy it back. I'm just not sure how this goes. Thanks.

Also you could have selected/programmed many things in your scanner, such as sites and channels. As you go along, you find you are too far away to hear something, or what you hear isn't of interest. You may also do some searching and discover new things that were not in the database and save them in the scanner.

Do a read from you scanner if you have made changes always gives you a real world picture of what should be programmed.

Not only is this helpful when you make a firmware update and face potential data loss, SD cards are like car tires - they wear out eventually and somethings with a catastrophic failure. So having a fall back set of data gets things back to where you are happy much sooner.

Thank you Gentlemen. It all makes sense. I do not usually make changes on the fly, but I see where it is very useful not to lose everything to a bad SD card as well. I once took the SD card out of my 436; lol. The SD card came out, along with half the bracket in there with it. I somehow fixed it myself, but never again.

The 100 can take a SD card of 1-32GB. I don't know how large the installed card is; I'm assuming 1GB. You know the testosterone is begging me for something larger..lol., whether I need it or not. Have a safe day. Greg

I believe they come with 4GB. If you do replace the factory supplied card, 32 GB is the biggest it will take. Be sure to get the high endurance kind that tolerates a greater number of read/write cycles. Your scanner is doing more of those cycles than what you might think.

While you are at it, it's a good thought to get two, one of which can be a ready spare. Camera shops, including the on-line ones, can be a good source for SD cards.

Yeah I think the Uniden engineers are laughing at us every time a card change is done on the portable versions of scanners. Fortunately you don't need to do this often.

Thank you sir. I think I read 4GB somewhere as well. But, is there any need for a larger size? A scanner can put lots of info on a 4GB Card. Yet, I feel that testosterone surging. lol

I was looking at my favorite photo place, B&H and saw the lowest capacity high endurance card they have is 32 GB $10.33. So you might have trouble finding something smaller.

I've never heard anyone complain they have too much room, but every now and then, there are frustrations about not having enough. You could go on a trip and want to record stuff while you are gone. Larger size cards are great for that.

SD cards continue to grow in capacity at lesser costs. Hopefully we will never seen the time we can't find small enough cards.
