I'm listening in Grand Rapids here, and the MSP District 6 State-Wide TG has been really lit up tonight. They have been calling our local dispatch (60) for plates and a run on a shotgun. They're using call signs such as "I-346" and "I-452" ... anyone know who these guys are?

Also, we've got BAYANET in town (they're all having dinner right down the street at one of my favorite places - an excellent choice!).

Thanks as always ... Scan On!!

BAYANET

BAY Area Narcotics Enforcement Team.
It's a team effort with Saginaw, the MSP, and some other group, too, I think.

BAYANET

Kinda' makes me wonder what they were doing in Grand Rapids ... must be some cooperative thing. I googled them and found an article where they worked with a Nebraska State Trooper - he participated with them in a bust (and the subsequent shoot-out!) here in Michigan. Sounds like they can work across borders and follow the drugs if the need arises.

My kind of guys!

Sometimes the persons they are interested in move around, and they will at minimum follow them around. The WEMET guys from up your way are down in my neck of the woods (Berrien County) at times.

I heard they use some of the encrypted talkgroups on MPSCS for their regular ops.

I have heard them come up on statewide 5 and 6 besides the district 5 and 6 MSP dispatch channels, but this was mainly to run plates or to get a uniformed unit to make a traffic stop. Neither if these is anywhere close to often. I can say they are aware of when they need to use encryption, as I have heard them say "switch back to our channel" when it comes time to pass on some detailed info.
