I have an Icom IC-2730a that has the Mars mod. I’m having trouble programming the repeater offset for GMRS repeaters. I know they are +5 MHz offset, but the transceiver doesn’t seem to want to do that. It will program a -offset, but when I try a +offset, it will not transmit. Any ideas besides, “get a GMRS radio”? Thanks in advance.

Try it on simplex on the input frequency in VFO mode. If nothing maybe the radio just isn't happy up there and the VCO won't lock.

Ha! That was the problem, not clearly understanding the offset and transmit freq, I had saved the repeater frequencies as 467 MHz, and tried to transmit 5 MHz above that.

Thanks! All is well now.

Glad you found the issue.

With me mainly using Kenwood commercial radios for ham and GMRS there is no just picking the offset. You need to enter both the receive and transmit frequencies into the software and been doing radios for a long time, so it's just second nature for me doing radio programming.
