Just fired up the radio, which had been working fine, and it displayed the CPU post reset configuration. It is also non-responsive to the band change buttons. Did another rest and nothing changes. Any ideas? Time for a new radio?

You'll either have to order a new button assembly from ICOM, or get a remote control repair kit to paint the back of the rubber on the buttons.

Over time the conductive material can wear off. You may also get lucky and only have to clean the contacts of the button assembly and circuit board.

I ran across this on a friend's 706. Repaired it by rubbing a Q tip on the back with rubbing alcohol. the former owner was a smoker I think.
