Icom: IC-706 MKII VOX issue

Hi All:

I just bought a used IC-706MKII knowing that the VOX was not working. It obviously was not a deal-breaker and I can use it just fine without the VOX function, BUT... ...it WOULD be nice to get it working (the OCD in me!). Here's what happens: with the VOX turned on in the appropriate menu, speaking into the mcrophone does key the transmitter. So far, so good. However, the radio will not return to receive. I can hear something cylcling (a relay?) at the same interval as the vox delay setting, but it stays in transmit mode. Turning the VOX off drops the rig back into receive mode.

Any ideas as to the cause and, more importantly, a possible cure? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the rear mic socket and/or a different mic just to rule out it's not the mic or front socket? Does the audio sound clean on a nearby receiver when transmitting (i.e. is there unexpected noise holding the vox open)?

Rear socket doea same thing and I don't have another mike (with the right connector) to test. However, Icom suggested unplugging the mike while the rig was hung up in transmit to see what would happpen and it stayed in xmit. Only way to stop it is to turn off Vox. Icom's next step was to send it in but I don't need VOX that bad! Thanks for trying, though.

Any update on this?
My 706 does the same thing.
It used to work, but the radio sat unused for about 5years or so, now it does the continuous tripping thing.
Same on from or rear jack and with different mics.
I have. HM103 hand mic and 2 heil headsets, same with all 3.

No. I was hoping there was a "most likely suspect" component, but, if there is, no one suggested it. Just going to live with it, Bought the rig knowing about the issue and will likely use it mobile so no biggie. Still...

That’s what I was hoping you found out.

I’d really like to be able to use vox for my pota activations.

I can't imagine that there isn't some trouble-shooting procedure out there, especially considering how long the 706 has been around,. Even ICOM only suggested the same stuff as showed up here. If you have better luck, I'd love to hear about it. Good Luck.

Same for mine.

Mine did work, but the radio was stored unused for at least 5 years, and now the vox has the issue.
