I picked up some older Icom equipment at a recent estate sale, in hopes of using it when I finally cross getting my Amateur license off my bucket list. The transceiver, power supply and external speaker are pretty straight forward. I can't find any info on the IC-7072 Interface Unit. Exactly what was it meant to interface WITH?

It allows you to slave the IC-720 with the R-70 which at the time was considered a better receiver. Those old radios had that strange Icom TTL parallel data interface.

The best information I could find is this 1983 issue of Ham Radio. There is an advertisement on page 2 that lists the features. IMHO, very limited use.
Thanks, very useful info and you're probably right about its limited use. Maybe the internal speaker would be of some use with the IC-720A. Probably not worth the $20 I paid for it.
