I have an IC-7100 and the VFO stopped working. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't think that it is a setting issue. I'm trying to narrow down the problem. Anty help is appreciated. Thanks

Do you mean that if you turn the big knob, the frequency doesn't change?

If you get into a setting mode that uses the big knob to make the setting, does that work?

Have you, perhaps, turned on the dial lock?

I did. I tried all three settings. No difference.

If you turn the Dial, aka big knob, does the frequency change?

If you go into filter passband width setting, can you turn the dial to adjust the bandwidth. Or, if you activate the TONE while in FM mode, can you use the Dial to select the tone?

Is the Lock icon (number 11 on this image) visible on the display?

The frequency does not change. I can not use the VFO knob in any menu setting and have to navigate the menu selections with the up or down buttons manually (display brightness for example I have to manually decrease or increase the brightness with the up or down arrows were as before I could normally use the VFO to make my selection). The lock is not on.

I have seen anecdotal reports of the rotary encoder behind the Dial knob on IC-7100s failing. That may be the case with yours. You may be able to replace it yourself. Or, you can send it in for service. If the radio is still under warranty, the repair should be covered.

Icom repair information: Repair | Support | Icom America.

I've heard good reports about SAR Technical Services in Michigan.
