• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can an IC-F21 automatically scan one specific channel?

Customer has 4 simplex channels. They have a 5th channel that is a repeater. If the radio is on channel 1-4, they want it to always be scanning channel 5. This is easy on Motorola radios but I can't seem to find this option in the ICOM.

Thanks

Either would work. I got in touch with ICOM and the radio cannot do the auto-scan the way Motorola's will. I have a solution programmed that was acceptable.

Thanks.

The newer radios have auto-scan capability, but alas, the bulletproof F121 does not.

FYI, the new F5011 (ostensibly 4-channels) can scan more than 4. I often set up radios with the four main "P" buttons assigned to MC-1 through 4, using P0-Repeater, P1-Direct, P2-Local Weather, and P3-Weather Scan.

The .icf files are interchangeable between the Fx011 non-display and Fx021 display radios. As far as I've been able to tell, the main difference between radios is the physical faceplate, but I have not explored all corners of the envelope.

To make that happen I program memory channel 3 to the local weather channel, then program MC-4 though whatever to the rest of the channels to be scanned. MC-4 is tagged auto-scan. I mark the scan list, set a non priority scan and let 'er rip. Works pretty slick.

You can also use a fixed priority scan setting the main talking channel as Priority 1 and add in RX-only channels. That is a bit trickier to get right, but works for "company truck radios" that need to listen to other things, like volunteer firefighters scanning paging and operational channels.
