I am a total noob when it comes to scanning, and I am looking to purchase my first radio. I don't want to have to upgrade anytime soon, so I am looking for the best model to purchase right out of the box. I'm torn however whether I should go with a handheld ICOM IC-R20, or mobile Uniden BCD996XT. The thing that has me scratching my head between the 2 models is the frequency range. I know that the ICOM reaches 3309.999 MHz and the Uniden goes to 1300 MHz, but the Uniden is also digital. Is the R20 digital also? I haven't seen anything stating that it is, but would the broader frequency range make it a better scanner or am I incorrect in this thinking? I would appreciate any advice you veterans could give me, and please excuse my ignorance on the subject.
