Sounds like Dave caught wind of a sales gimic. I find those from time to time.

Going out of business, last call, get it while you can.

Saw most places listed as discontinued. HRO had one store showing available. Lets hope Icom updates the R30 similar to the 52A with a nice waterfall display, full color display, phase II and DMR (wishful thinking).

Received the BP-293 battery case and also the LC-189 case today. Both made in Japan. The quality of "Made in Japan" was a major factor in the purchasing of the R30. As well as years of reliability with the R20 which continues to work perfectly today. Even with the R30's minor shortcomings it is still a beautiful receiver!

I agree the R-30 is a very useful receiver. Easy to program using many inexpensive methods.

The NXDN system I used it for monitoring added encryption. No longer have much use for it. Sometimes I turn it on to hear the truckers on I-94. But there isn't much CB traffic unless it's snowing or some traffic mishap has caused a backup.

NXDN reception is getting more important for rail band listeners. There's not much here yet but it will eventually happened everywhere. The R30 does a much better job than the SDS series.

Maybe Icom is getting out of the handheld receiver market. Maybe they have a new model in development, but have run into component supply problems, so shelved the idea for now.

Or IC-R30 production has been suspended due to component supply issues, while the replacement is already well down the development path as Icom foresaw this issue and planned ahead.

The 52A with the large display and waterfall would be the wise next upgrade. Heck, they could use the current guts of the R30 and mate it to the new 52A and I would buy it. DMR and phase II P25 would be nice though.

I would love to see an IC-705 style of receiver. Basically shove the R30 receiver goodness into a 705 with a few features from the R8600. I need to call old man Icom and tell him what I want for Christmas.

Icom won't get off their high horse and include DMR. Best we can hope for if they upgrade the R30 is phase II P25, but not holding my breath on either. Would be happy with the guts of the R30 in the 52A case with the waterfall. Heck, with the so called chip shortage, would be happy to send my R30 in to retro fit it in the case of the 52A, if that would be possible. I don't know the dimensions of the 52A.
