Icom and DMR are not compatible in a sentence. Icom still has dreams for D-Star, but the simple fact is DMR prices for hams entry into digital and the lack of a professional role for D-Star are road blocks. I have both digital modes, and the number of reachable DMR repeaters in my area far exceeds the D-Star number.

this is a pity becasue in Europe this strategy is limiting a lot the possible success of this receiver ...

For a transceiver intended for amateur radio, I can see Icom being reluctant to include DMR since they have D-STAR.

For a transceiver intended for land mobile radio, I can see Icom being reluctant to include DMR since they offer NXDN.

For a scanner, I don't understand the reluctance. Including DMR in a scanner or wide-range receiver isn't going to take sales away from their amateur radio or LMR operations.

I called Icom USA a year ago and told them if they would include DMR as a payable upgrade like uniden does, they wouldn't be able to make enough as it would make the R30 king of the handheld receivers.

I'd buy such a radio in an instant.

I caved today and bought a DMR key for my SDS200 (already had one for my SDS100).

Icom might as well add a C4FM upgrade to the next version of their receiver while they're at it and SSB VSC...and the 52A scope/waterfall. As long as it works, it would be what the AOR/Yaesu DV-10 wanted to be and more. All of that in a handheld receiver would be wild.

...don't wake me, I'm still dreaming...

Apparently I live in the black hole for DMR. I have never lived near a ham DMR repeater nor near a place where DMR was used for public safety. I think we have a couple of casinos here that use it, thats about it.
I always wondered why there is so much whining/complaining about the lack of DMR.

What would be nice to is if it would display any CTCSS or DCS code used when it stops on a transmission. There is a way to make the R30 do that but it is buried in menus. It would be nice to just have it display that information anytime it receives a transmission so you don't have to scroll around through menus trying to hurry before the transmission stops.

I doubt I'd buy an upgraded one....unless it added alpha tagging of talk groups :)

I heard a live stream with Ray Novak. Stated the R30 had an early death due to the lack of semiconductors, they have about a 100 units coming in. But there are no plans for a replacement in the near future.

Disappointed to hear that.

When you say "100 units coming in", you mean to various dealers in the US?
