I stupidly did a full reset on my ICOM IC-R5 scanner as I wanted to clear everything and start again with the programming but seemed to have lost an available frequency. Section 3 page 8 of the manual shows available frequencies but my AM 370 band is now showing as FM 370 band. I'm new to all this and I'm self teaching my way around the IC-R5 and it's been quite a learning curve! My available frequencies are as follows

Should be. I've got
AM 1.620. AM 1.620
AM 5.00. AM 5.00
FM 51.00. FM 51.00
WFM 76.00. WFM 88.00
AM 118.00. AM 118.00
FM 146.010. FM 145.000
AM 370.000. FM 370.000
FM 440.000. FM 430.000
FM 850.000. FM 850.000
FM 1295.000. FM 1295.000

Is this a school boy error and I'm missing something due to my inexperience!! If it is I apologise in advance but we've all got to start somewhere! Many thanks for reading this and I'd appreciate any help that anyone could give me please.

After a great deal of button pressing I've managed to get back my AM 370 band. It's a great little radio but the programming can be a bit frustrating for a newbie like me! With lots of button pressing and help from a great site like this I'm sure it'll be second nature soon.

Are you using software to program the R5? Programming and operation of the R5 is challenging for veterans as well. This is particularly true if you have become accustomed to programming and operating scanners, as the conventions are quite different.

I just got the IC-R6 and with the Butel software had 6 banks programed within 15 minutes. It does a very god job with the stock antenna receiving DTE airport which is about 20 miles from my home.

Many thanks for replying. No software as yet but it's something I'll have to look into. I've managed to programme a few memory channels off the buttons but it was quite challenging, however I'm starting to learn my way around it. I'll see if I can find any software and lead packages at a decent price. It's a great little radio and I'm impressed with the reception.

The Icom R2/R5/R6 series are all great little wideband receivers, very sensitive.

Never got my hands on an IC-R1 to give the originator of the series a tryout.
Would like to though, second-hand units seems to list for around $200 on ebay.
