I need to replace the cover screws on my 7000. Does anyone have the size and type handy? I tried several local electronics shops and hardware store, nobody has the size I need.

Thanks

I purchased some on Ebay a couple of years ago. I don't remember the size unfortunately. I believe I bought them from the person who sells the R7000 capacitor replacements.

There is also a seller named BigApple59 I believe. He sometimes has items like that.

Years ago, I contacted ICOM and was able to obtain screws from them cheaply/ I have never seen that size in hardware stores.

I bought some from Grainger before but I forget the size. I just remember they were metric and usually had a slight oval head on the screws. The ones I'd bought from Grainger were also a black color so they matched the originals pretty well. The only thing was that the original screws are made from brass but colored black. I think the ones I bought from Grainger were stainless. Grainger sold them in a standard naked steel finish as well as a black finish. I recall they also had true flat head types plus the oval head type. They also sold regular round head screws more like the type Icom used to hold the circuit boards to the chassis.
This was quite a while back when I bought them so Grainger may no longer sell them today.
McMaster-Carr likely sells them also.

I just poured over the materials lists in the SM's for R7000, R71A, IC-275 and IC-475, all from same era. ICOM has bill of materials that covers everything down to the wire but oddly no mechanical parts. Indeed they were brass screws painted or anodized. I would give ICOM WA a call and hope they can send you a bunch. Those radios do finish off nicely with the proper hardware.

I bought screws from Icom parts dept. While you have the cover off, drill the holes out larger. The screws are fine thread and if the alignment is a bit off the screws get messed up.

Thanks, I have dealt with him in the past. I bought an 8500 from him. Really nice guy and honest seller.

I did the same thing. I even spoke to Icom Canada and they did not have any specs.

There used to be a company called "small parts" from Miami Florida that sold all kinds of fasteners. I think Amazon owns them now. Do you have even one screw to match threads at a hardware store?

Another idea is to look for companies that part out old ham radio gear. There are several in Israel, Cyprus etc.

...and I think they are Japanese metric - a #1 Philips screwdriver is too pointed, a #2 is better.
