I am planning to purchase a R75 from USA or Japan, and the included power supply is 100 V.

The radio actually requires 13.8 V DC.

As the voltage here in Oman is 240 V AC, could I use an alternative local power supply that provides 12 V DC and 1 A ?

Is 12 V DC too low for this radio? Will there be any adverse effect to it?

Or could I still use the provided 100 V AC / 13.8 V DC supply in combination with a step down voltage converter that I have?

Or should I purchase a dedicated 240 V AC/ 13.8 V DC power supply?

Thanks

Looking at the Specs. for the R-75, shows "Power supply requirement 13.8 V DC ±15% (negative ground)." 15% of 13.8v would down to 11.04v.

So, any regulated 12v dc supply should work fine.

If the radio is new then it may come with the AD-55S which is a switcher with 100-240v input.

There are also several generic ones with similar specs that will work.

The newer power supplies are known to create terrible RFI. .

Yes, you can use any DC power supply as long as it provides a regulated 13.8v @ 1.1A output. I would go with at least a 2A power supply to be safe.

This is an excellent power supply and they offer a 220V model. DM-330MVE

It's a lot more amperage than you need but it's not a bad idea to invest in a quality power supply. It's fairly small and doesn't weigh as much as a linear.

FYI, the plug size for the R75 DC power jack is a hard-to-find model but it can be found online through a well-stocked electronic parts warehouse. It may be easiest to just cut the cord off the Icom supply and use it with your new power supply.

I used to have an Icom R75, and (believe me or not!) I had it there in Oman! It's still there, in fact... the guy I gave it to might be willing to sell it to you... PM me if you're interested and I'll tell you his name and contact info.

I used my R75 with the American 120V power supply, connected to a 240V/120V stepdown transformer I bought at Carrefour in Seeb. It worked great.

Hi that is quite amazing...

Would love to have a look at it, but I really wanted to get a new unit...

It seems I cannot PM you because of some privilege settings.
